Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire

Title: Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire (12)

Year: 2005

Running Time: 157 minutes

Director: Mike Newell

Cast: Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Rupert Grint (Ron), Emma Watson (Hermione)

Notes: Won numerous awards, including some for the whole series, won a BAFTA, nominated for two BAFTAs, nominated for an Oscar.

Rating: 9

Thoughts:   In year four Harry is a surprise entrant into the tri-wizard tournament, that sees four students, including two from visiting schools, battle it out against a number of trials.

Yet again this is a very good film and there is a real sense of progression in terms of the characters, the story, and indeed the craft.

A new director sees the darker side of the story continuing. The narrative is strong, with the wizards all struggling with increasingly difficult tasks and for the first time we have some overt death, with one student killed by Voldemort.

This is very well handled. The only reason I don't rate this higher is because I feel they could have done more with the two visiting schools, and perhaps dropped some of the tournament dance scenes to make space.

They just seem like a rich area for development and their arrival is superb, but we only really have a sense of them through a couple of characters after that.
