Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban

Title: Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban (12)

Year: 2004

Running Time: 142 minutes

Director: Alfonso Cuaron

Cast: Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Rupert Grint (Ron), Emma Watson (Hermione)

Notes: Won numerous awards, including some for the whole series, won a BAFTA, nominated for three BAFTAs, nominated for two Oscars.

Rating: 10

Thoughts:   The third year sees Harry progressing his schooling as notable criminal Sirius Black escapes from prison.

Now the series becomes darker, a new director transforming this from children's film to young adult and beyond.

Now the threats start to feel genuine and you sense that characters are beginning to be at risk.

The subject of time travelling is well handled and there's just an increasing tightness to everything. The younger actors are now much more assured in their roles and the script is excellent.

This could almost stand on its own as a story, and the film is strong in every department.
