Rise Of The Shadow Warrior

Title: Rise Of The Shadow Warrior (15) Year: 2013 Running Time: 100 minutes

Director: John Lyde

Cast: Danielle C Ryan (Nemyt Akaia), Richard McWilliams (Keltus The Wanderer), Paul D Hunt (Kullimon The Black)

Notes: Also known as SAGA : Curse Of The Shadow. Won two awards.

Rating: 6

Thoughts:   An elven bounty hunter, a human paladin and an orcish chief group together. This unlikely band tackles the Order of the Shadow, who intend to raise up their evil God.

So far, so cliche, with obvious scope for conflict between the heroes as they embark on a relatively predictable quest.

However, those interactions are good and are well supplemented by some believable looking, as well as sounding, characters. The final enemy also looks decent.

The scenes are also great, although there are maybe a few that are recognisable, and thus divert from the feeling of fantasy. Overall the actors raise this up a level.

The script is fine but it is the cast that prevent this being another fantasy by numbers. That's quite something as a lot of the fights are a little lame, but the acting carries it.
